Here are the average salaries of medical coders in 2008 by employer type, according to Advance for Health Information Professionals’ 2008 Salary Survey.

| Hospital/acute-care facility | $42,600 |
| Ambulatory care facility | $39,700 |

| Physicians’ office/group practice | $37,000 |
