Tomorrow’s Eye Revenue

Worried about where your eye revenue is heading? … particularly given that Medicare reimbursement for cataract procedures in surgery centers will increase less than 1% a year over the next four years. Don’t get depressed yet. You may want to also factor in the growth of the “65 & older†population in your area. On a national level, the “65 & older†group is projected to increase 2% annually over the next 2 years. For the following ten years (2011 to 2020), this increase is 32% or 3.2% annually. Therefore, the net effect on surgery center eye revenues (i.e. cataracts) is a positive 3% to 4%, considering both reimbursement and population changes. There are some areas in the United States that will see an even bigger increase in their revenues, due to an influx or growth in the aging population, while others could see a decrease.
