Study Finds Medicaid Physician Fees Rose 15% From 2003 to 2008

A new study by Health Affairs has found that Medicaid physician fees rose 15 percent from 2003 to 2008, a rate that is outpaced by inflation.
Only primary care physician fees rose with the rate of inflation (20 percent between 2003 and 2008).
The study also found that Medicaid physician fees began to close in on Medicare fees, increasing from 69 percent of Medicare rates in 2003 to 72 percent in 2008. However, the slow growth in Medicare reimbursement rates during this period can be attributed to this change.
The study used data from state Web sites and state survey data for their analysis.Â
